Projects completed at the Center for Design Innovation between January 2012 and May 2013

Welcome to the CDI

This animation was created using medical scans purchased from a commercial organization. A rig was created for the skull and hands, one of which was duplicated and mirrored across. It was then animated at the Center for Design Innovation in Winston-Salem. Posted here are the first attempt and the final product.

Sign language seemed the best way to display the articulation in the hand bones at first. It saying and signing welcome to the C-D-I. The audio is a little weak.

The second one here has extended dialogue and better sound quality.

Dialogue: CDI is a multi-campus research center of the University of North Carolina system, using and creating advanced computational technologies to benefit community economic development."

THE CDI BUILDING

The Center for Design Innovation is currently (at the time of this post) building it new facility. Recently, I completed a model of the structure meant for 3D printing. Here are a few images.

CHAIR DESIGN

One of the projects I was assigned to me at the CDI was to design a chair with animal esthetics. I chose a bat for inspirations, seeing as one of the CDI's on going research projects involves the study of the Mexican free-tailed bat. I soon learned that chair design is a pretty intense field to get into and the people that enter it are truly passionate about it. Here are some screen shot of what I was able to come up with.

The wings are transparent in this design, so they don't block the view of the sitter.

For the last attempt I went with a more abstract approached to the bat theme.
